MM17/18 CBD and South East Light Rail Project Update .......................................... 1
Mayoral Minute No. MM17/18
Subject: CBD and South East Light Rail Project Update
Folder No: F2014/00453
The CBD and South East Light Rail project has been receiving a considerable amount of media coverage of late with Acciona (part of the ALTRAC light rail consortium) suing Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and an associated hearing before the NSW Supreme Court last Friday, 13 April 2018. This is also resulting in a reported slowdown in construction activity along the light rail alignment.
Given this climate of uncertainty, it is important to ensure up to date information is provided to Council and the community on the implications of this NSW Supreme Court activity. It is proposed to invite a representative from TfNSW along to present to the next Let’s Chat session with the West Ward Councillors planned for 3 May 2018 at the Kensington Community Centre. This will provide an important opportunity for Councillors and the community to hear from TfNSW and to also ask questions on the current status of construction.
Financial impact statement
There is no direct financial impact for this matter.
The NSW Supreme Court case have reported impacts on construction activity along the alignment and resulting implications for project timing and completion dates. It is important to receive an update from TfNSW on the various implications of this legal process and also provide the community with an opportunity to have their say and ask questions.
a) TfNSW be invited to the Let’s Chat session on 3 May 2018 to provide an update on the light rail project and implications for timing and construction.
b) Council seeks a meeting with the Minister of Transport to outline Council’s concerns and request an update on when the works will be completed.
