Mayoral Minute No. MM11/16
Subject: Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation - Request for Financial Support
Folder No: F2005/00401
An invitation has been received from the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation to support their annual fundraiser through becoming a Standard Handicap Race sponsor of their Bledisloe Cup Festival Race Day event being held on Saturday 6 August 2016 at Royal Randwick Racecourse.
The Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation (POWHF) fosters strong links with the community, endeavoring to establish lasting relationships with individuals, industries and businesses and creating better hospital awareness. Every donation made to the POWHF makes a difference to patient care and helps to build healthier communities.
It is appropriate for Council to demonstrate its support for the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation and acknowledge their ongoing provision of services and care to the people of NSW and the Randwick community in particular.
As a Standard Handicap Race Sponsor, Council would receive 10 members guest passes for the Bledisloe Cup Festival Race Day, two tickets to the Rugby in Racing luncheon and a range of promotional opportunities.
In addition to the cash sponsorship I would like to donate two signed rugby jerseys to the fundraising activities being run by the hospital on the day.
I intend to attend the event and present the signed jerseys to the highest bidder.
Financial impact statement
The cost of sponsoring a Standard Handicap Race is $5,000.00 (plus gst). This will need to be funded from the 2016-17 Contingency Fund.
It is recommended that Council take on Race Sponsor involvement for this very worthwhile fundraiser to support the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation in its mission to build healthier communities.
a) Council take up Standard Handicap Race sponsorship for the Bledisloe Cup Festival Race Day being held on Saturday 6 August 2016 as a show of support for the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation with the funds being allocated from the 2016-17 Contingency Fund; and
b) interested Councilors be authorised to accept a Member guest pass to this very worthwhile fundraiser to support the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation in its mission to build healthier communities.

Mayoral Minute No. MM12/16
Subject: Randwick Boys and Girls High Schools - Request for financial assistance
Folder No: F2004/07396
I have received a request from Ms Maxine Ford, Liaison Teacher at Randwick Boys’ High School, for financial assistance for a combined Randwick Boys’ and Randwick Girls’ High Schools production to be held at NIDA in August 2016.
Ms Ford, in her correspondence, says:
“I am writing to express my appreciation of Randwick City
Council's support for Randwick Girls' and Randwick Boys' High Schools' past six
Shows. Without Randwick City Council's sponsorship, our five productions,
2010’s “Australian Stories”, 2011’s “Once Upon a Time…”, 2012’s “Portraits”,
2013’s “Lights, Camera, Action!”, 2014’s “Time After Time” and 2015’s “Our
Story” would not have been so successful.
As you know, in 2010, the schools began to produce our own full-length professional shows using the facilities at NIDA. These shows have become an annual program that give over 220 students the opportunity for their skills in dance, drama, singing, music and stage production to be showcased before an 800-strong audience in NIDA’s Parade Theatre. Each student involved in the show signs a pledge not to smoke, drink or use drugs during the production year.
2016 marks the seventh year that Randwick Girls’ and Randwick Boys’ High Schools will produce an original show at NIDA. Prior to this year, our sixth productions, of which Randwick City Council has been a great support, were enormously successful and brought high exposure to our sponsors. This year’s production will take place at the end of August, and will include one matinee and two evening performances.”
The Schools have asked for financial assistance from Council for the August 2016 production and have indicated that they will ensure that Council’s contribution is acknowledged on the students' jerseys, fliers, and school newsletters, fostering a strong community awareness of our involvement.
Financial impact statement
If the report recommendation is adopted, the donation (of $4,000) will be funded from the 2016-17 Contingency Fund budget.
Council has provided financial support for the Randwick Girls’/Randwick Boys’ Rock Eisteddfod team for a number of years and supported the combined show at NIDA since 2010. It is recommendation that Council contributes towards the cost of the Schools’ 2016 production as this is an important community event and worthy of continued financial assistance from Council. The event will be ‘drug-free’ which positively encourages a healthy lifestyle for those involved as well as fostering the development of the students' talents in the creative arts.
a) Council donates $4,000.00 to the Randwick Girls’ and Boys’ High Schools for the combined production to be held at NIDA in August 2016, such funds to come from the 2016-17 Contingency Fund budget.
b) the Schools undertake to appropriately and prominently promote Council’s sponsorship of the event.
