Notice is hereby given that a Works Committee Meeting of the Council of the City of Randwick will be held in the Council Chamber, First Floor, 90 Avoca Street, Randwick on Tuesday, 8 April 2014 at 6:00pm.

 

 

Committee Members:           The Mayor (S Nash), Andrews, Belleli, Bowen, D’Souza (Deputy Chairperson), Garcia, Matson, Moore, Neilson, Roberts, Seng, Shurey, Smith, Stavrinos (Chairperson) & Stevenson

NOTE:    At the Extraordinary Meeting held on 28 September 2004, the Council resolved that the Works Committee be constituted as a committee with full delegation to determine matters on the agenda.

Subject:                  Bequest of $50,000 by Dr Lynn Joseph

Introduction

 

Randwick Council has received a bequest of $50,000 from the Late Dr Lynn Harvey Joseph to be used for a children’s playground.

 

This report outlines how the money will be utilised to meet the wishes of Dr Joseph.

 

Issues

 

The Executor of the Estate of Dr Joseph contacted Randwick Council advising that Dr Joseph had left a bequest of $50,000 in his Will for Randwick Council.  The bequest is to be for provision of a children’s playground.

 

Dr Joseph was a graduate from the University of Sydney in medicine and practiced in Maroubra for most of his life.

 

To meet the wishes of Dr Joseph, it is proposed to allocate the $50,000 bequest towards the new children’s playground in Ocean View Reserve, Maroubra.

 

The project is included in the current 2013/14 Capital Works Program.

 

It is proposed to recognise this generous contribution with a plaque to be installed as part of the project.

 

Relationship to City Plan

 

The relationship with the City Plan is as follows:

 

Outcome 5:       Excellence in recreation and lifestyle opportunities.

Direction 5a:      Maximise opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy both active and passive open space uses.

 

Financial impact statement

 

The report recognises a $50,000 contribution that will be allocated to the new children’s playground at Ocean View Reserve.  The project is funded in the 2013/14 Capital Works program.

 

Conclusion

 

Randwick Council has received a $50,000 bequest from the Late Dr Lynn Harvey Joseph to be used towards building a children’s playground.  It is proposed to allocate the funds to the proposed new children’s playground at Ocean View Reserve, Maroubra.  The donation will be recognised with the installation of a plaque outlining Dr Joseph’s generosity.

 

 

 

 

Recommendation

 

That:

 

1.  The report be received and noted.

 

2.  The $50,000 bequest from the Late Dr Lynn Harvey Joseph be allocated to the new playground proposed at Ocean View Reserve, Maroubra as part of the 2013/14 Capital Works Program.

 

3.  The bequest be recognised with installation of a plaque at the new playground.

 

4.  Council write to the Executor of the Estate of the Late Dr Joseph advising of Randwick Council’s intent to comply with the wishes of Dr Joseph.
