CONFIRMATION OF THE MINUTES OF THE WORKS COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, 10TH MAY, 2005.

 

W43    RESOLUTION:  (Belleli/Seng) that the Minutes of the Meeting of the Works Committee held on Tuesday, 10th May, 2005 (copies of which were circulated to all Councillors) be and are hereby confirmed as a correct record of the proceedings of that meeting.

His Worship the Mayor, Cr M. Matson declared a non-pecuniary interest in Item 6.5 - Director, City Services' Report 56/2005 - Council Owned Ficus 'Hillii' (Hills Weeping Fig) Growing Outside 27 Ritchard Avenue, Coogee as he lives in this street.

6.1  DIRECTOR, CITY SERVICES' REPORT 52/2005 - NEW LIVERY ON COUNCIL VEHICLES AND NEW UNIFORMS FOR OUTDOOR STAFF.  (F2004/06234)

 

W44       RESOLUTION:  (Sullivan/Seng) that the Director’s Report No.52/2005 on new livery on Council vehicles and new uniforms for outdoor staff be received and noted.

6.2       DIRECTOR, CITY SERVICES' REPORT 53/2005 - LITTER BINS AT BUS STOPS.  (F2004/06054 XR F2005/00171)

 

W45       RESOLUTION:  (His Worship the Mayor, Cr M. Matson/Hughes) that the Director City Services be authorised to implement the installation of rubbish bins at bus stops in the City shown to have a heavy litter problem.

 

MOTION: (His Worship the Mayor, Cr M. Matson/Hughes) CARRIED – SEE RESOLUTION.

 

6.3       DIRECTOR, CITY SERVICES' REPORT 54/2005 - SIGNS AT PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS.  (F2004/08251 XR F2005/00171 XR F2004/08433)

 

W46       RESOLUTION:  (Belleli/Seng) that:

 

a)                  the RTA’s Pedestrian Policy and Programs Manager be requested to carry out a joint inspection with Council’s Senior Traffic Engineer of pedestrian crossing locations within the City of Randwick, where critical site distances, visibility and high accident rates are of concern to Council, and replace the existing signs at these locations with new larger signs, with a view to enhancing the safety at these locations; and

 

b)                  a report be brought back to the Works Committee on the installation of flashing lights at all school pedestrian crossings in the City of Randwick.

6.4       DIRECTOR, CITY SERVICES' REPORT 55/2005 - PROPOSED POLICY ON "RESIDENTS' REQUESTS FOR SPECIAL VERGE CROSSINGS."  (F2004/07364)

 

W47       RESOLUTION:  (Sullivan/Seng) that:

 

a)         Council adopt the Policy on “Residents’ Requests for Special Verge Crossings”; and

 

b)         Council’s Policy Register be updated accordingly.

 

MOTION: (Sullivan/Seng) CARRIED – SEE RESOLUTION.

 

6.5       DIRECTOR, CITY SERVICES' REPORT 56/2005 - COUNCIL OWNED FICUS 'HILLII' (HILLS WEEPING FIG) GROWING OUTSIDE 27 RITCHARD AVENUE, COOGEE.  (F2004/07359)

 

(Note: His Worship the Mayor declared a non-pecuniary interest in this item.)

 

W48       RESOLUTION:  (Sullivan/Seng) that the Ficus ‘Hillii’ (Hill’s Weeping fig) growing on the nature strip outside 27 Ritchard Avenue, Coogee, be removed and replaced with an advanced Syzygium luehmannii (Lilly Pilly) – as per the originally adopted strategy for the removal and replacement of all aggressive rooted street trees growing within the City of Randwick.

 

MOTION: (Sullivan/Seng) CARRIED – SEE RESOLUTION.

 

6.6       DIRECTOR, CITY SERVICES' REPORT 57/2005 - COUNCIL OWNED FICUS 'HILLII' (HILLS WEEPING FIG) ADJACENT TO 114 BOTANY STREET, KINGSFORD.  (F2004/07359)

 

W49       RESOLUTION:  (Sullivan/Seng) that the Council-owned Ficus ‘Hillii’ (Hill’s Weeping fig) growing on the nature strip adjacent to 114 Botany Street, Randwick, be removed and replaced with a more appropriate tree species – as nominated in Council’s Street Tree Masterplan.

 

MOTION: (Sullivan/Seng) CARRIED – SEE RESOLUTION.

 

6.7       DIRECTOR, CITY SERVICES' REPORT 58/2005 - COUNCIL OWNED FICUS 'HILLII' GROWING ADJACENT TO 1 AVOCA STREET, RANDWICK.  (F2004/07359)

 

W50       RESOLUTION:  (Sullivan/Seng) that the Ficus ‘Hillii’ (Hill’s Weeping fig) growing adjacent to 1 Avoca Street, Randwick, (second tree from Avoca Street) be removed and replaced with an appropriate number of Peppercorns – as per the originally adopted strategy for the removal and replacement of all aggressive rooted street trees growing within the City of Randwick.

 

MOTION: (Sullivan/Seng) CARRIED – SEE RESOLUTION.

 

6.8       DIRECTOR, CITY SERVICES' REPORT 59/2005 - COUNCIL OWNED STREET TREE GROWING OUTSIDE 62 MURRABIN AVENUE, MATRAVILLE.  (F2004/07359)

 

W51       RESOLUTION:  (Sullivan/Seng) that approval be granted to remove the Council-owned Melaleuca quinquenervia (Swamp Paperbark) and that a more appropriate native tree species be planted as a replacement – as per Council’s Street Tree Masterplan.

 

MOTION: (Sullivan/Seng) CARRIED – SEE RESOLUTION.
