Apologies were received from Crs Daley, Procopiadis and Sullivan.

 

RESOLVED:  (Notley-Smith/Kenny) that the apologies be received and accepted and leave of absence be granted to Crs Daley, Procopiadis and Sullivan from the Extraordinary Council Meeting held on Friday, 13th August, 2004.

3.         MAYORAL MINUTES.

 

3.1       MAYOR’S MINUTE NO. 60/2004 - PROPOSED SUBURB NAME FOR MIRVAC DEVELOPMENT AT THE FORMER DEFENCE LAND IN BUNDOCK STREET.  (98/S/1386 xr 98/S/4189)

 

184      RESOLUTION:  (His Worship the Mayor, Cr M. Matson) that:

 

(a)        Council support the inclusion of the land detailed on Attachment No. 3 to the Mayor’s Minute No. 60/2004 as part of the suburb of Randwick;

 

(b)        Council support the inclusion of the area bounded by Anzac Parade, Holmes Street, Henning Avenue and Moverly Road as part of the suburb of Maroubra; and

 

(c)        Council officers proceed with the procedure as set out by the Geographical Names Board for determination of suburb names and boundaries.

That the resolution passed at the Health, Building & Planning Committee Meeting held on 10th August, 2004 as detailed hereunder:-

 

that the following fourteen (14) Aboriginal names put forward by Crs Tracey and Woodsmith, after consultation with local Aboriginal elders, be adopted;

 

WATTUN-GORI (collective name for Banksia)

GUMARA (brush tail possum)

MUNDA (black snake)

BARRUGIN (echidna)

DARANGA (cabbage tree)

MARIDA (fish hawk)

GURUWIN (grey nurse shark)

NGARANG (water dragon)

KURITJAH (particular specie of banksia)

MARRAIYO (acacia – coastal wattle)

BANGARAH (swamp wallaby)

MARAIGANG (quoll)

GUWAL (commorant bird)

MUGGADARM (lizard)

 

BE AND IS HEREBY RESCINDED.  LOST.

 

(Councillor Bastic left the meeting at this stage, the time being 8.28 p.m.)

 

(Councillor Andrews requested that his name be recorded as opposed to the motion being lost.)
