RANDWICK STATE EMERGENCY SERVICES

REPORT BY:            DIRECTOR ASSET & INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES

INTRODUCTION:

Notification has been received from the Local Controller, Randwick State Emergency Service, Sandra Foley, that for personal reasons she is resigning from the position.  The resignation is effective from 30th November 2002.

Sandra Foley has carried out the function of Local Controller for a period of approximately twelve months.  During that period she has increased the membership of the Randwick unit and has rejuvenated its operation.  Both myself and the Sydney Southern Division Controller have expressed our disappointment that Ms Foley is unable to continue in the position.

ISSUES:

I have discussed the appointment of a new Local Controller with the Sydney Southern Division Controller, Gary Jones.  We have both agreed that the recruitment process for a new controller should not be commenced until February / March 2003 so that the widest possible field can be attracted.

In view of these circumstances it was agreed that an Acting Controller should be appointed until the recruitment process is completed.  Following discussion with the Sydney Southern Division Controller and the existing Local Controller it was ascertained that the existing second in command of the Randwick Unit,  Mr Adam Abela, would be suitable for this temporary position.

CONCLUSION:

Following the resignation of the existing SES Local Controller arrangements have been made to appoint an Acting Local Controller.  It is proposed that this acting appointment will continue until recruitment of  a new permanent controller is completed early in 2003.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the information contained in Director of Asset & Infrastructure Services Report dated 21st November 2002 concerning the position of Local Controller, Randwick SES be noted.
